Condenser Mic Microphone
Need Phantom Power for a Condenser Mic?
I am using a Boss BR 600 with a MXL 990 condenser microphone. The Mic needs 48v of Phantom Power, but the BR 600 does not have that capability. Are there any solutions, or am I stuck?
Don’t worry- your problem can be solved for well under $100 in some (if not most) cases. I can readily think of three solutions: get a mixer that can generate phantom power, get an outboard phantom power unit, or get a microphone preamp that can generate phantom power such as the ART Tube MP, which apparently now sells at several online retailers for less than $50. These three options are listed from what is likely greatest to least expense (who knows what you might pick up used in a local music store or pawnshop); options one and three offer applications beyond simply generating phantom power. If this were my call, I’d probably get the preamp.
